MIG Welder Job Description :

A welder is a machine operator that uses a plasma cutter (the metal cutting tool) to weld pieces together.

An MIG welder is a machine that uses a wire electrode and a gas such as argon or helium.

The process that the welder uses is called MIG welding, an acronym for Metal Inert Gas welding.

MiG welding is an industrial process that has been used for over 70 years.

The process uses a wire electrode that is fed into the torch, which is created when the gas is mixed with an electrical charge.

MIG Welder Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties related to MIG welding, including arc welding, gas cutting, spot welding, and oxyacetylene welding
  • Create detailed weld procedures and work instructions for routine maintenance, repair, installation, and fabrication of materials
  • Perform quality control checks on welds, including measuring diameters and thickness, and comparing material dimensions
  • Assign jobs to employees; train workers in MIG welding procedures
  • Manage inventories of welding equipment and materials
  • Assist with interviewing, hiring, and termination decisions; comply with all employment laws
  • Represent company at industrial trade fairs
  • Negotiate deals
  • Visit customers
